Fish & Richardson has expanded its German patent litigation practice by hiring a new principal, Armin Kühne, in its Munich office, home to the annual Oktoberfest. Kühne joins from Noerr, bringing expertise in SEP and life sciences litigation, marking a significant step in the firm’s European growth.

Kühne’s addition increases Fish & Richardson’s European presence to three lawyers. He will serve as a principal, equivalent to a salary partner, and brings ten years of experience from Noerr, where he most recently worked as an associate partner. His career began at McDermott in Munich, further solidifying his roots in the region.

Corrin Drakulich, global head of litigation, stated, “Armin’s experience before the UPC and German courts strengthens our ability to serve clients facing increasingly global patent disputes and enhances our capacity to deliver coordinated litigation strategies across jurisdictions.” This move aligns with the firm’s strategy to bolster its capabilities in handling complex, cross-border IP challenges.

Kühne’s background includes representing innovative companies in telecommunications, electronics, automotive technology, pharmaceuticals, and network security. Notably, he was part of a team led by Ralph Nack handling a case concerning security for costs at the UPC Court of Appeal. He also represented Purem against Newron in life sciences litigation, showcasing his versatility in high-stakes disputes.

Fish & Richardson’s recent growth includes the June appointment of Daniel Shim as of counsel for its global IP litigation practice. Shim joined from Samsung Electronics, where he played a central role in global IP litigation, including SEP and FRAND disputes. During his time in Europe, Shim was involved in significant cases that shaped the environment of SEP and FRAND litigation.
